EARNING A LIVING
THE TRANSPARENT ENTITY
C.A.S.I.T.A.
An ongoing project, 2006-.
Is a project designed and developed by the C.A.S.I.T.A. collective (on this occasion, Loreto Alonso, Eduardo Galvagni, Kamen Nedev and Diego del Pozo Barriuso).
The first materialisation of the project was produced at Madrid's Matadero art centre between April and July 2007.
The project was conceived as a prototype of production, exhibition, and distribution.
"Earning a Living" is a long-term project which includes meetings, dialogues, installation pieces, visual material and audiovisual pieces developed by the C.A.S.I.T.A. collective.
Our objective is to stimulate the exchange of ideas which can suggest interesting ideas and points of view on the current reality of labour. Thus, our project engages heterogeneous situations and contexts in a variety of fields of cultural and social interest through The Transparent Entity, a metaphor for the visible and invisible processes of conditioning of the production system.
We want to impulse the research on the modes of production and the way they condition our times and our spaces, especially in the areas of the new labour divisions and the production of subjectivity. To reflect on the consequences of the production paradigm shift.

Who/What is C.A.S.I.T.A.?
The acronym C.A.S.I.T.A. can be appropriate for anyone interested in collective and collaborative cultural concepts which include all kinds of people in order to develop activities related to art. On the other hand, each group that uses it can change its meaning. In this case, C.A.S.I.T.A. stands for (in Spanish):
How to Articulate Forward-Looking Situations Between Work and ArtC.A.S.I.T.A. is conceived as a means to understand the cultural realm, with infinite functions, which can be put at the service of interested parties in order to organise activities in which art is above all considered as a tool which provides playful strategies, strategies of thought, of relation and action, developed for everyday life practice. It has a cooperative character, with a special emphasis on the idea of an experimental community, understood as a constant process of social and cultural multidisciplinary interchange.
C.A.S.I.T.A.'s purpose is to create a space for reunion and work for art projects that incentivise inter-disciplinarity in their development. We believe that every reflection should lead to practice, and we believe that through interaction with different bodies of knowledge. We want to generate a space in which diverse approaches to a theme can be contrasted, thus getting to constitute a creative art project. On the other hand, we firmly believe in the value of a space for dialogue among people in which to share ideas among equals from different standpoints, as an alternative to conventionally-established hierarchies. This project and all its elements and creative pieces have been developed collectively, and are conceived to be gradually opened up to a larger group of people. At the beginning, we start off with collaborators who are closer to the project, with "partners" who will intervene in our space, and with people we find adequate or interesting, and whom we will invite for our meetings and actions. Finally, when the project reaches the exhibition stage, we present it to all kinds of visitors, who are offered a variety of modes of participation.
Who are we addressing?
C.A.S.I.T.A. is governed by a democratic will, and, therefore, we have always sought to expose our projects to potential audience groups and turn them into target audiences.
This is why we look for an interaction with the social structure in the areas where C.A.S.I.T.A. has acted. In order to make this engaging the target audience as realistic as possible, we focus on communication, educational activities, and other means to encourage dialogue with the community.
